Dear Diary,
I started this journal in order to express my thoughts on the books I am reading in more detail, although I review books as well I don't put really personal thoughts about the book I am reviewing, and the tiktok reviews are only a very quick overview.
Here I can and will write whatever I think personally, for instance I have recently finished The Hobbit for the first time, years ago when I tried to read it I just couldn't get into it, this time howeer I really enjoyed it.
I got my copiy n in a box set with The Lord of the Rings Trilogy at a car boot sale really cheaply, about a £1 I think, and, yes I thought it was very good.
When reading I couldn't help thinking of Bilbo as a mash of the main 4 characters from The Wizard of Oz - now hear me out, Bilbo is set on an advetnure and throughout the entire story he wants to go home (Dorothy), when travelling with hs companions, even though they and himself does not think he is very clever, it is Bilbo who comes up with and executes every plan (the scarecrow). He also goes from caring very little about anything except for food and comfort (heartless) to really caring about his new friends and trying to find ways for everyone to get what they need without suffering themselves (the tin man), and then he admits he is scared of everything such as the Spiders and Smaug yet he still stands up to them (the lion). You could also say that Gandalf is OZ himself as well as the good witch that send Dorothy on the journey and Smaiu is the Wicked Witch of the West, although Bilbo himself does not kill Smaug, he is the one who discover the dragons vulnerabilty and gets the information to the person who does.
I'm sure all Tolkien fans would crucify me for this but, that is how I felt when reading it, of course is on my mind as I am currently reading it to Jennifer.
There is alot more to the story and will read the Lord of the rings at some point but I have so many book on my TBR at the moment it might take a while
